CLAMP Paranormal Investigators is a three part series of light novels written by Tomiyuki Matsumoto and illustrated by CLAMP. Though CLAMP has illustrated numerous light novels (none others released in English), this one takes place within the walls of CLAMP’s own CLAMP School, a main location for a variety of their series. It follows a mix-matched team of students as they solve one mystery after another, from monsters to ghosts, nothing goes unnoticed by the CLAMP Paranormal Investigators!

It’s the final review of mystery week today with CLAMP School Detectives! This set of books takes readers of CLAMP’s older works to a familiar place, back to the walls of the prestigious CLAMP School: a fully self-functioning school (and small city) for the gifted in the heart of Tokyo. This three-volume series revolves around three such gifted youths, the trio who makes up the elementary division’s council: Nokoru Imonoyama, Suoh Takamura and Akira Ijyuin. Together they’re also the CLAMP School Detectives, saving the city one damsel at a time!

Clover Confirmed

cloverbyclamp.jpg

Confirmed! So for all the maybes and most likelys, Dark Horse has now officially announced (via Gia) their hold on the license for Clover and their upcoming 512 page omnibus release. It’s currently listed on numerous online shop sites for a December 2008 release at a listed price of $19.95US.  Amazon.ca have it listed at $14.90 Canadian.

Clover Updates, Link’s Here To Stay

As quoted from Peter Ahlstrom, one of Tokyopop’s Editors, who kindly took a moment to leave some comments on my post about the Clover omnibus listing:

“I can say for sure that this book is not coming from TOKYOPOP. I don’t have any knowledge of Dark Horse’s plans.”

Coupled with the “no comment” from DarkHorse that Gia recieved upon questioning, I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet that DarkHorse now holds the license for Clover. A bit of an assumption, but seems to me this could be the missing link between DarkHorse and CLAMP, as their mangaette announcement seemed a little out of no where.

Also, Viz has finally confirmed their licensing of the Zelda manga, now currently only the two volume, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. (via Gia)

More Clover Ponderings

Chloe Ferguson did the math and it seems a safe bet to say that the Clover omnibus will indeed fit nicely at about 512 pages, in one volume, as opposed to the suggestion of several as was implied by the Chapters listing.

One thing however that caught my eye on the Amazon listing is the publisher. Dark Horse? A license holding switch-over from Tokyopop? Did I miss an announcement? Another possible connection between the two forces (referrance to the mangaette joint project)? Or could it be the dreaded confusing typo that causes me these questions?! Hopefully I shall be enlightened in due time.

Yum Yums

Little manga news heads-up today for some coming-soonish titles. You can tell I’ve been shopping when these posts pop up!

The omnibus edition of Aoi House, an OEL manga about two college boys who accidently find themselves residents of a yaoi fanclub dorm house, comes out in a few weeks (April 15). It’s a great value for a series that’s really cute, entertaining and sporting some terrific artwork!

Also over on Amazon.ca, you can take a peek at the coloured cover for the upcoming Yaoi Hentai replacement, Happy Yaoi Yum Yum, published by Yaoi Press. The name has yet to grow on me but two thumbs up from me for the cute logo work.

“Yaoi smut tastes better when it’s happy and fun! The successor to the ultra popular Yaoi Hentai anthology features a yaoi take on Jack and the Bean Stalk, a sexy romp with two gay porn stars, a brand-new Trach the Tentacle monster story, and more! “

And on the non-yaoi front, Chapters has up a listing for the December 2008 release of the Clover Omnibus, volume one. Clover is a short manga series by CLAMP and is currently out of print by Tokyopop. Though labelled as volume one, with a page count of 512, this is most likely the entire four-volume series (though being such a short series, 512 seems a bit high. Misprint?). A beautiful series that I recommend, especially for CLAMP fans. I love the cover slips of Tokyopop’s earlier releases of this series, so I hope the omnibus is treated with the same quality.

Review: XXXHolic (Vol. 11)

Manga-ka: CLAMP
Publisher: DelRey
Rating: Teens (13+)
Released: March 2008

Synopsis: “Kimihiro Watanuki has been saved from death by the sacrifices of his friends, but his recovery time is cut short. His special connection with the spirit world is needed to investigate a terrifying haunted house, placate annoyed Warashi spirits, and face the growing threat of a shadowy figure called Fei-Wang Reed.”

It’s a continuation of the usual with XXXHolic, volume 11, but don’t think for a minute that it’s a bad thing. Watanuki continues his service to the Space-Time Witch Yuko, encountering the supernatural and living amidst a mystery so intertwined with everyone’s lives, that it’s a wonder how CLAMP will sort it all out by the time the finale rolls around.

Sakura Con

SakuraCon

Sending out some more pimpage to Gia over at her blog. She’s currently at Sakura Con 2008, live-updating her site with the going-ons in the industry panels including Tokyopop (CLAMP’s working on Gohou Drug 4? News to me and made of win!), Funimation and Brocolli.

Bring in the New

See that cute little Canadian maple leaf that now graces my blog header? Click on it and you’ll be led to the beginnings of my section tentatively (and enjoyably cheesily) called ‘Oh Canada!’: the Kuriousity resource for Canadian anime and manga fans. It’s a baby now but give ‘er time! Edit: Seems that FireFox dislikes my maple leaf link. Darn? Browser compatibility stinks. Will hopefully be fixed soon.

Quick news clippets of the day:

animeboston.jpg

AnimeNewsNetwork has begun their information posts on Anime Boston including a few new licenses and updates on previously announced releases (CLAMP School included, finally!).

I love big convention weekends; it keeps the internet community buzzing (unlike most update-dry weekends!)!A couple days old but interesting non-the-less to fans; KOSEN has stated on their personal blog that they’ve completed work on volume one of their current series with Tokyopop called Daemonium. They’re not allowed to release the details yet but it’s definately something to look forward to! KOSEN has gained worldwide recognition for their yaoi works, currently released in English by Yaoi Press, including Stallion and Saihoshi. On a stranger note, Japanator‘s John Martone = gay porn star? Who knew. Gia reveals all!

Take me back to the top!
