Looks like there’s a new yaoi publisher ready to make its debut (via MangaBlog). Yaoi Generation’s website popped up when YG was listed as one of the dealers at the upcoming YaoiCon. While their website doesn’t have anything too specific, upcoming products include English edition mangas (estimated 24 a year), merchandise and a magazine.
“Yaoi Generation is a publishing company that brings the flourishing yaoi genre to English-speaking countries around the world. We are committed to delivering high quality publications to our readers, translated seamlessly into colloquial English while maintaining the coherency and brilliance of the original work. Look for our exciting titles this winter 2008!”
Rumours are already going around on if Yaoi Generation is a new independant group or a part of a previous company (such as Yaoi Press), but either way it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of this, especially in light of recent industry tremors involving Tokyopop’s BLU and DramaQueen.
I still say it's unlikely to be Yaoi Press– the reasoning behind that guess was that Kellie Lynch, who is now working for YP, is living in the Bay Area, but I didn't get the sense she was interested in licensing materials. And even if she was, why would YP start a whole new company when they already have an established reputation?
The other guess was DrMaster, because they're also based in Fremont, so I suppose that's possible. I did manage to acquire a name by doing a whois on the website: Thuy Duong. But I can't get anything remotely helpful on anyone with that name.
@gia >> The idea of it being a part of Yaoi Press does seem pretty unlikely to me. The company is already well established enough as is, and if they did start licensing, I doubt they'd start a new section (especially with a name like Yaoi Generation, with them already being Yaoi Press).
If Yaoi Generation is going to be at Otakon (I believe I heard that around?) as people as saying, hopefully we'll get some more info then.
@ both of you. The Yaoi Press/Kellie thing was snark. A joke made on my friends LJ because I have a past with both companies. There's speculation, because I'm the only one who said it. ((^_-))
As for it being Dr. Master…who knows.
